Built land

When one sees the solidity of a mountain or the vastness of the sea, when one comes upon it suddenly, it has a powerful, monolithic presence. Everything, including one's own ego, is pushed aside, except the majesty of that mountain or that sea. Such a sight absorbs you completely - it is beauty itself. If you are fortunate enough, think of a building with the same all-consuming intensity - that building I call architecture; the others are nothing but structures.

I try to capture these places during my travels; letting my feet lead me down the back alleys. Often these deliberate acts of 'getting lost' present the most inspiring moments. It could be a perfectly placed bench, a simply built fence, or a more refined gesture crafted in the urban fabric. The commonality is the craft with which the line is drawn. I simply highlight it.
